I have tried to contact support via support@icewhale.org but no answer the last 16 days. Also tried discord and #zimacube-help channel, which mainly pointed me to the support email. So I’ll try a post here too..
My ZimaCube Pro/Creator has random problems with HDDs not being detected during boot.
I have tried to reseat all drives. At the moment it is mostly HDD 2 that doesn’t get recognized.
What can I do in regards to the HDDs being randomly not detected. It could be 1, 2 or 3 drives, I might recall also 4 drives at one time. When I’ve checked BIOS from time toe time, one ore more often do not show up in BIOS overview of drives, and also in ZimaOS (though after leaving BIOS it gets rebooted again so a new-boot-new-lottery-of-all-or-not-all drives.
I had this problem on ZimaOS 1.3.x, and for a while it’s been offline and I’ve been traveling, so 16 days ago I reinstalled it with ZimaOS 1.4.2 beta 2 (later updated to 1.4.2 and now it’s on 1.4.3). I did not have any data I needed to save on it yet, as it is not stable. I need it to be stable, I can’t have drives randomly go missing during a reboot.
Also, I was looking for updated firmware/bios and found this site / bios files:
“Ahh, neat, lets me install the latest and see if that helps” was my thought, and so I did. Well… It seems that version was a month older then the one that was installed when I got the ZimaCube, but I didn’t notice until later when I checked my notes. The HDD problem(s) was with both versions.
Is there a new BIOS available? Or at least the one it came with? Can I have the latest BIOS file please, I’d like to be on the latest version.
Btw - I’m happy to see RAID-6 finally available. My drives are 16TB seagate, so RAID-6 is a must for me, can’t have a chance of a simple bit rot kill all data on a raid-5 during rebuild or waiting to change dead drive.
