[Located] Can’t use Zima Client desktop version to back up data from PC to the USB-connected drivers on ZimaOS

Sure. What I love about that application is that it lets me know where I’m using the most space, whether it’s junk files or not, and it tells me which folders contain the most data. However, I’m starting to miss having control over USB drives. For example, I can’t back up to external drives because it won’t let me select them. In my case, I have a RAID enclosure with the drives already configured, but it won’t let me migrate my data to that USB drive or create backups, which is causing me a problem. As you can see in the image. I also can’t share an entire drive on the network, only the internal folders… Any solutions for this?

I also have another issue I’m having trouble with: HTTPS. The version you offer is for machine-to-machine implementation, but that doesn’t n8n with Telegram or Whatsapp . Should I enable it automatically so it’s automatically enabled for ZimaOS and all containers?

It would also be fantastic if you could set the containers to update automatically, without having to update them manually.

Thank you for your feedback on the WinDirStat feature.

Thank you for taking the time to include these details, and it helps everyone resolve issues faster and keeps the community running smoothly.

Sorry, you are right.

  1. As you can see in the screenshot, when I try to create a backup to one of my external (USB) hard drives, ZimaOS does not let me select them, so I cannot store backups on any USB device. I have this storage enclosure: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0CNT937V6 but I cannot use it for what I need; I would really like to be able to assign these USB drives so they work the same way as the internal ZimaOS-HD storage.

  2. I also cannot select any of those external drives to share them over the network as if they were a normal shared folder.

  3. Another point is data migration: I also cannot use the external drives there, because the external disks cannot be used in that workflow either.

Let’s focus on backup in this topic.

Would you reproduce the backup process and take a screen video of it?

I still suggest you open up new topics for other questions.

The migrating location should be limited within the internal storage.

Attach the specs of your machine and OS version here.

Look forward to your feedback.

Points 2 and 3 are essentially the same thing; we’re talking about disks, which is why I haven’t split them into different threads.
I currently have ZimaOS v1.5.2 (it was updated today). The hardware doesn’t matter because the problem is with the software.

I get it.

You want to back up data from your PC to the USB-connected drivers on ZimaOS.

For now, you can choose a USB drive as the destination on the Backup App located on the ZimaOS dashboard. But you can’t do it on the backup function located on the Zima Client desktop version.

After confirmation with my colleague, this doesn’t meet the product design. Our team will fix this.

And the workaround may be that you share the folder from your PC and mount it in your ZimaOS Files App so that you can back up your PC data to the USB-connected drivers.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for your feedback!
We’re already working on enabling “PC file backup to USB-connected storage” in Zima Client. This feature is currently under development and will be released as soon as it’s ready. I’ll make sure to notify you once it goes live.

The issue is that the application verifies the data, and of course, sharing an entire disk over a network isn’t the most advisable thing to do (security-wise). Regarding point 2, I have a USB drive that I want to share from ZimaOS, but I can’t. If this worked, I would do it the other way around and not share the ZimaOS disk; I would encrypt the copies afterward (I share encrypted copies of my data).

Wow thank you so much, that’s much appreciated.
I’m really loving the system and I’m already recommending it. It just needs a few tweaks to work out some features and it’ll be perfect for me, at least.

The idea of using a USB drive as physical system storage would also be fantastic. That way, it could be used to migrate data to RAID arrays (USB drives) and things like that.

Sharing USB drives is indeed feasible. Please see the post below.

Also, I appreciate your using and recommending it.

May I know the three main reasons that you like ZimaOS?

Look forward to your feedback.

If point 2 works, then we’re left with points 1 and 3.

As an improvement, I propose saving that path as a shortcut in the featured folder. We can call it “System Drives” or “This PC,” like Windows does.

I just can’t resist sharing the ZimaOS-HD drive.

“Can I know the three main reasons why you like ZimaOS?”
1- It’s very simple and fast.
2- The Docker system.
3- Virtual machines.

I found a less than ideal work around for this by using a another backup client (GoodSync) to simply create a backup into the network drive via samba. Not ideal because it cost me another yearly subscription, and I’d rather have the NAS softtware do the work.
