After the recent upgrade to 1.8.0, I have noticed a call out on my network to 223.5.5.5. I am wondering if someone can explain what this call out is and if it is necessary. Depending on the use case, can it be shut off? Thanks ahead of time for any help on this. Cheers!
First things first… Have a look here !
Yeah, Thanks.
The questions still stand. Can anyone explain why there is a callout to Alibaba Cloud Computing?
Cheers.
Hi! Thanks for bringing this up, and for checking with us!
The request to 223.5.5.5 is related to DNS resolution. This address is a public DNS server operated by Alibaba Cloud, and it was included to help ensure DNS resolution works out of the box across different network environments.
That said, we understand that DNS servers can behave differently depending on the user’s region and network configuration. Using a fixed DNS server globally isn’t ideal, and we appreciate you pointing this out.
In the next release, we’re planning to improve this by selecting appropriate DNS servers based on the user’s region. The goal is to avoid using DNS servers that may be unsuitable for a particular region, providing a more reliable and consistent experience for everyone.
Thanks again for your feedback and patience while we continue to improve this. Cheers!
