Dear Team,
Though the USB hdd support is finally here & amazing, the major downside is that Still we don’t get SPIN DOWN (Disk Standby) functionality for USB hdd s.
Is there a plan for it on the release of the stable version ?

Dear Team,

Hi Alex,
just to share my experience: I’m using three WD USB hard drives, and the sleep (spin-down) mode is working fine for me.
So it seems that it might depend on the specific setup or drives.
I own a TerraMaster D5-300c connected via USBc. 3 of the disks are on a Raid5 successfully and 1 disk is alone.
None of them goes to sleep…any ideas how to fix ?
THANKS
Hi Alex,
this might actually be fixed in the latest ZimaOS 1.6.0 update.
There was a known issue where the smartd service caused drives to wake up intermittently, preventing them from entering proper sleep mode. This has now been fixed according to the release notes.
Since my drives already spin down correctly, it might be worth updating and testing again.
Best regards
Hi all,
Did my update to final 1.6.0 but still problem remains…HDDs will not last even a year ![]()
Any feedback from the team ?
Alex
Same here.
Terramaster 4 disk enclosure, I am .1.6.0 and it does NOT go to sleep.
Bro, no help is coming
I fiddled around with hd-idle and managed to get them spinning down on 10 minutes
Sorry can’t help more
Alex
How and where did you fiddle?
Anyway, Terramaster external enclosure here as well, that works perfectly with other pcs, does not spin down disks with 1.6.0 under Zima OS.
The enclosure is a Terramaster D4 320.
Any news on USB hdds not spinning down? It’s a major flaw for me, and I guess for many others…
