ZimaCube SMB: Adding Users and Groups?

I would prefer to not have to use my root / admin account to access my ZimaCube, separation of privileges and all. I could not find anywhere in the ZimaOS web interface - where this could be done, so I assume this has to be done via the command line?

We are working on this and you will see SAMBA support for multiple users. It is expected to be launched in 3 to 5 weeks. Thank you for your patience.

the pace of your plans is great to see, nice job to the team!

Take a look at this, does it meet your expectations? :grinning:

Yes. That is what I was looking for. Thank you! Using a admin or root credential in shares is very bad practice and very insecure. Having SAMBA share users only … this would be awesome. To save time adding a bunch of users across several folders, please implement groups of users, that permissions can be applied.

Please work on SAMBA protocol working well with other platforms other than Windows OS. It should work with Linux and MacOS, and others. I connect to actual Windows OS systems via SMB, and it is much more responsive than the ZimaOS implementation. If directory caches are supported, use/support those. Ensure that there are very little or no timeouts or wait cycles. A few wait cycles if I was connecting over a long-haul or slower connection, however, when I am connecting over a local network, there should be none.

Hi Greg,

We have noticed the performance issues of ZimaOS SMB. We will focus on optimizing it in the next 3-5 weeks. You may need to wait for a while. Thank you again for your feedback. Your voice can provide great motivation for our continuous improvement.

@ocra-zhang - THANK YOU! It really does mean a lot that you all are listening and responding to the your customers. I can not wait for ZimaOS to mature! …and while I wait, I am using TrueNAS and playing with other operating systems!

Keep up the great work!
