Zimaboard 2 not recognizing my 2TB WD hard drive

Hi everyone, I have a Zimaboard 2 and I’m trying to set up a personal NAS. I connected a 2TB Western Digital hard drive (model WD20EFZX) using the included SATA Y cable, but the Zimaboard doesn’t recognize the drive, even after reconnecting it several times.

The hard drive is brand new, so I find it strange that it could be the problem.

Regarding the connection: the SATA data cable clicks firmly into the Zimaboard, but should the SATA power cable also make a click when properly connected?

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this issue?

A few things you can check to narrow this down:

SATA Y-cable seating
The data connector will usually “click,” but the power side often does not.
Please make sure it’s pushed in firmly on both the drive and the board end.

Test the drive externally
If you have a USB-to-SATA adapter, try connecting the WD20EFZX to another machine.
This is a quick way to confirm the drive itself is healthy.

Check in ZimaOS
Under Storage > Disks, does anything appear under uninitialized disks?
You can also SSH and run lsblk to see if the OS detects it at a lower level.

Try another cable
The bundled Y-cable can occasionally be faulty. If you have a spare SATA-data + SATA-power source (or another Y-cable), please try that.

Drive type
Your WD20EFZX is a CMR NAS-friendly drive — fully compatible, so no special formatting should be needed at this stage.

If you can, please share:

  • ZimaOS version
  • Result of lsblk over SSH
  • Whether the drive spins up / vibrates
