Hi guys, a few months ago I bought a ZimaBoard 2 1664 Mini NAS kit.
I installed two 3.5" mechanical hard drives and installed Ubuntu Linux.
Everything works really well.
However, I noticed that the temperature of the hard drives (RAID 1) is a bit too high.
(around 52 degrees Celsius)
I already installed the fan on the board (as shown in the official video) that I found in the box, but it doesn’t seem sufficient.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve the situation?
Maybe the rack tray is too cramped and cannot move enough air?
I am very new to this, but I just bought 2 Zimaboard 2 1664 kits. Setting up NAS and CAM Servers. but I don’t think the little fan that’s on top of the Zimaboard 2 Will do anything for your hard drives. I’m sure it’s just for trying to cool the CPU right under it. So, what I did was just purchased a cheap case fan to set behind the rack blowing air through it. The fan I purchased is a little louder than I would like but where it’s going to be located won’t bother me too bad. but it would be something to watch for purchasing a fan. It would also be better if the fan was powered by something other than the Zima board. Good luck
I agree, the small fan fitted on top of the ZimaBoard 2 is mainly helping with the board/CPU area, not really the hard drives.
For my ZimaBoard, I bought a small fan with a USB connection and plugged it in separately to help move air across the drives. That way the airflow is aimed more at the HDDs instead of only cooling the board.
It may also be worth checking the actual airflow direction and making sure the drives are not sitting too close together with no gap for air to pass through. 52°C is a bit higher than I would personally be comfortable with for mechanical drives long term.
Get rid of it and get a beelink mini pro..cheaper and a more proper nas with the same cpu and cooling for the 2 drives drives… these things are toys at best but at current prices they make no sense to me. the beelink has 3 m.2 slots and i can always run zimaos if i choose to. but other and i would say better options exist.
