Will a faulty RAID5 disk be automatically repaired? I need help

PVE:8.4.1
ZIMAOS:1.4.1
3块100GB组raid5,我模拟离线了一块,如愿显示 disk damage,我该如何重建恢复?

Just a few days ago, user @blacksunix shared his experience of succeeding in restoring the array that was marked as damaged. See point 6:

Hope this is helpful.

AIthough I think that missed is different from damaged, could you please try to inserted another disk that is at least has 100G storage space and wait it to check untill it finished. Look forward to your feedback.

I searched the Internet for the missing and damaged raid5 disks. It is estimated that the lost data will not be recoverable, and the damage can be reconstructed, and there is a time for reconstruction, but there is still a risk. Tks…

Could you recall that before pulling out the disk to test, the RAID array had finished the checking stage? If so, your data is protected, and if you replace one of the disks after checking finishing, your data can get protected again after the one more checking phase, which may take hours or days, depending on the storage space size.

It would be perfect if you could record the whole process with images or videos. Other users can gain from your experiences.

Is this raid5 setup and test complete?

Simulate disk failures on a RAID 5 configuration (comprising three disks) using Zimaos 1.4.1 on Proxmox VE 8.4.1.

Shut down and then detach a disk. Replace with another disk

Power on

That’s all. This is damage, not missing. If it were missing, the data might be lost forever

It seems that you simulated a missing instead of a damage. And it succeeded. Right?

damage ok,missing no.

How did you damage it specifically? What I saw is you detached the old one and reconnected a new disk. This is what I called simulating a missing.

Yes, you’re right. What was just simulated was the damaged one. At first, I removed it directly, and then “missing” appeared. Or if the scsi channel is directly changed, it will also appear. This seems inevitable ~_~
