Where is my USB stick gone?

Hi all,

I build a server and i use ZimaOS as system to use. This works flawless.
I want to make a full backup to an external hdd.
To do this, i have a Sharkoon bay, where i can insert a HDD, and connecting this to a USB port.

I know it isn’t the fastest.

Problem is, that ZimaOS don’t see the USB bay, or any USB stick.

How to fix this?

Thank you.

Hi, it might be a compatibility issue.

Would you please provide the specs of this bay and your NAS?

This will help @Jerry to determine if help could be provided.

Hi I did find that the USB Drive needs to be formatted in your computer before it will be seen in ZimaOS, here I have a QNAP DAS with 4x 10TB drives in RAID 0

Hi Giorgio,

Proc: Intel Core I5 12400
Motherboard: ASUS Prime H610M-A D4-CSM
Memory:Kingston Fury Beast KF432C16BBK2/64
SDD: Lexar NM620 2TB
HDD 2X: Western Digital Red 2TB.

I have a tower PC from Coolermaster. it has the abilty to slight in a SATA drive.

The strange thing is, that i could see USB stick’s and this HDD drive in version 1.38 of the ZimaOS.

Hope this helps.

Hi Miles,

Thank you for commenting.
The sticks and the HDD is already formatted, and it worked in version 1.38.

Sorry, I don’t know any versions that are tagged with 1.3.8.

Could you try to erase the FS from the disk first?

Before inserting disks onto ZimaOS: use Windows/Linux to erase the FS on disks Windows version | Linux version

Look forward to your feedback.

Hey Giogrio,

It was version 1.3. I need a correction for my glasses
Will be back later on.

@Zima-Giorgio ,

Erasing the FS with Gparted did the trick!
Why is that?

The USB is already formatted en there are files on it.
What the trick was, that i used Gparted and de-couple the usb stick.
Then is inserted the stick and Zima recognize it.

I would like to know why it worked this way.
Does ZimaOS need a certain config or format for the stick to work?

So, it worked, right?

ZimaOS can accept the right FS formats or a clean disk with no FS. That’s the reason.

Hope this is helpful.

I know.
The format of the harddrive was ext4, usb uses fat32.
And it worked because 1 drive was a backup drive wich i used to copy the files to ZimaOS. I have different harddrives that comes right out of a Debian Linux machine. Al of them are in a compatible filesystem format.
