Using SAS drives in the ZimaCube

I wondered if anyone has managed to get SAS drives running in their ZimaCube/Pro and wanted some of your insight.

I salvaged a few Seagate ST6000NM0034 SAS drives from work assuming they’d be compatible given the SAS backplane but none are spinning up or being detected in BIOS. (The drive bays do have a light for the connected drives but it’s the left LED, which looks to be a drive symbol with an X over it)

I’ve since read another post/review mentioning running SAS drives in SATA mode but didn’t think that was a thing and it didn’t go into detail as to how to do this either.

Might it be a ‘Power Disable’ issue, are SAS drives just outright incompatible or is it something else?
The drives are fine and, as i’m sure you can all understand, would rather not fish out the cash for new ones if I had the choice. Thanks.

The official statement is that although SAS hard disks can be inserted into Zimacube, Zimacube itself does not support SAS hard disks. Because the HDD controller only supports SATA hard disks, it cannot be recognized even if a SAS disk is connected.
As for the reason for choosing a SAS compatible interface, it is because the pin layout of the SAS-shaped interface makes the interface more durable.
