USB3 external hard drives as an Raid 1 System

Hello,
I’m a complete beginner and have installed Zima OS on a mini PC. Unfortunately, it only supports two internal hard drives. However, I’ve connected two 1 TB external USB hard drives. I’d like to set up a RAID 1 system, but unfortunately that doesn’t work. I’m also missing a Linux client. As soon as these features become available, I’ll purchase the paid version right away.
Or are there ways to make this work right now?
I think the system is brilliant as a home server. Finally free from US online storage.
Thank you very much for this
Uli

Can you expand on what you mean with “But unfortunatley that doesn’t work”? Do you get any specific errors?
I haven’t tried my self yet but I’ll try out now at the same time.

Edit:
Well, I plugged in two usb-drives, they show up on the dashboard but when I press “manage”, nothing shows up - is it the same for you?

After some searching the forum, seems like USB drives aren’t supported yet..

Hello,
Thank you for the quick response.
Access to the USB hard drives is possible even from an external device, at least on Windows. I’ll make do with some synchronization software.
Is an official Linux client planned?
I’ve only had the system for a week, but so far I’m thrilled with how easy it was to set up and share files externally using ZimaOs.
Thank you very much for that.

  1. We will support creating RAID using USB in the next version, and we hope you will be able to experience it.
  2. Our amazing community developers recently created a Linux client, and we hope you can try it out and give us some feedback. GitHub - astralcynsm/ZimaClient-Linux: a small network management tool based on ZeroTier, Wails and Samba · GitHub

Ok, i will try the Linux client and wait for the next version.

Thanks very much

I’m running 1.6.0 beta and can confirm that usb drives are usable as “regular drives” now - no issues over the past few days - fingers crossed

What do you mean “ usable as “regular drives” now”? Ist it now possible to make a Raid 1 with two USB Drives?

That’s exactly what I mean by it

I setup a raid1 on two USB drives no problem

ok, i also update to 1.6.0 Beta. Setup raid1 is still in progress.:slightly_smiling_face:

It’s been working pretty well on Windows so far, but on Linux Mint, I can access all the hard drives via their IP addresses in the browser—though unfortunately not at the file level. The Zima client is installed, but unfortunately I can’t get it to open. The Zima client won’t start, and there’s no error message. Too bad—I was actually hoping to move away from U.S. products.
