I am currently messing around with switching my server over to use ZimaOS. However, one big hesitation is how a UPS is handled. Right now it is managed through the manufactureres management software (APC Powerchute).
I have never even ventured a long look at NUT, but I know with other distros that is an option. All I ever want is for the system to shut down safely AFTER a certain amount of battery time. Once in a while we have momentary blips, I’d rather not have to go restart everything from a 30 second power outage when the battery could bridge the gap.
I hope this information is helpful. Our system will provide UPS support within the next three versions. Also, I’d like to ask where you first learned about ZimaOS, what were the three possible reasons you chose to migrate to ZimaOS, or what you like about ZimaOS? Looking forward to your reply.
Ok, that support would be amazing. I am in no hurry to switch, but I might keep one machine running the software just to maintain it until the updates come through.
I had found Casa a while ago, and even though a lot of other OS options seem to have a weird cult following once I tried Zima, it just worked. My needs are very simple, so I do not need to virtualize 37 random dockers for no reason. I just need an easy to manage NAS system, that I can access from anywhere. You guys made the whole backup system VERY easy which is really quite handy. I really like that adding other locations like cloud folders, even other remote servers, I can then just access them through the Zima folder structure.
Right now my only thing I will wait for is the UPS support, and I need to get my vpn setup tested. I use Wireguard for remote access. The Zima Client did NOT work for me, and actually caused some errors with my phone. It interferes with Android Carplay, and I could not find a way to actually turn it off until I uninstalled the app
Hey @Zima-Giorgio would we be able to provide a list of UPS vendors and models like we do with network drivers to make sure you guys can include it too? I wonder if all of NUT compatible appliances will be covered or if just a few. Thanks.
PS: Check GitHub - Brandawg93/PeaNUT: A tiny dashboard for Network UPS Tools for inspiration of what it could look like or even to have it natively implemented into the ZimaOS if that’s easier.
