Trying to get some correct help / Information somehow for a Zima board 2 1664 that doesn't seem to have any on the website

Well since migrating your data files to a larger hard drive on the Zema board 2 Is a nightmare to try to make it work. Now I can’t even migrate them back. I can manage to keep the GUI working enough to access it. But first apps wouldn’t work, then they would completely disappear, And now I can’t even download anything from the App Store. so it’s not much good to me anymore unless I can get Xima OS installed back on the drive to try to start all over. I get the software off of Zima’s website and flash the USB and start following the only directions I can find on the Xima website. And flashing the USB with balenaEetcher that I’ve done hundreds of times was about as far as things went well. Then the next instructions were just use the boot menu and boot from the USB drive. Sounds easy! i’ve done it all the time with other computers and devices. But I don’t think I’ve ever read the instructions on how to do it on the manufacturer’s website and them not tell you how to access the boat menu in the BIOS! So when I finally figure out that a simple for boot menu access was left out of the instructions Seemed kind of strange to me, not to mention when I did find it and got into the boot menu it gave me 4 options none anything like the description it was given me. None of the four would let me flash the zimaos-x86_64-1.6.1_installer.img to the Zimaboard 2. Then when I scroll down a little further in the directions, I find out these directions are for Zema cube. So I just think they are the same for both devices. Who knows? I know this is a new device and I’m sure y’all are used to dealing with seasoned veteran Linux users that don’t need any instructions. but if you’re going to put instructions out here for the newbies they need to at least be correct and written for newbies. I hope I can get some help soon before my 30-day warranty runs out with Amazon and I have to send them back. I have been looking around in the forum only to find a few with similar problems that no one has ever reply to. Hard to find specifics on Youtube. So, to make a long story a one liner. “Can someone tell me the exact and correct procedure to reflash the zimaos-x86_64-1.6.1_installer.img from USB to the Zimaboard 2 1664. Please, thank you.

Hi LinuxDummy,

I understand your frustration. The current install instructions are still a bit too generic, especially for ZimaBoard 2 users.

For the ZimaBoard 2, try this procedure:

  1. Power the ZimaBoard 2 completely off.
  2. Plug in a monitor, keyboard, and the flashed ZimaOS USB.
  3. Power it on and immediately keep pressing:
F7

for the boot menu.

If F7 does not show the boot menu, reboot and try:

Delete

to enter BIOS, then manually choose the USB drive as the boot device.

When you see the USB boot option, make sure you choose the UEFI USB option. Do not choose EFI Shell or network boot.

Before reinstalling, I strongly suggest disconnecting any data drives if possible and leaving only the system drive/eMMC visible. The installer will erase the target disk you select, so this helps avoid selecting the wrong drive by accident.

Once the installer starts:

Install ZimaOS
Select the correct target disk
Confirm the warning
Wait for install to finish
Remove USB when prompted
Reboot

After reboot, check your router for the new IP address or use ZimaClient to find the device.

If the USB does not appear as a UEFI boot option, I would try another USB stick and reflash the image again with BalenaEtcher. The ZimaOS installer image should be written directly to the USB, not copied as a file.
