I cannot use a keyboard when installing a VM in ZVM. When I try to start the installation of anything inside the newly created VM I have no way of using the keyboard to get the installation started. I have tried Windows11 Windows10 iso, Linux Mint and Ubuntu images downloaded through ZVM. When I get to the start of installation where I would press enter or tab there is no response inside the container.
Have you set your keyboard or input method to its initial state? Or is it a US keyboard? In some countries, keyboard input may produce characters that are not on the keyboard, due to input method issues or other reasons. Please try disabling any related settings or input method states. Additionally, please use a camera or other recording device to record your operations so we can help you pinpoint the problem.
I am very new to using Linux, that is why I was drawn to zimaos. It is very user friendly. I do not know how to check the keyboard or input method to its initial state. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for using ZimaOS.
Do you have another PC or Mac? So that you can test it in a new environment.
Would you please try it in a new browser?
Also, when entering the ZVM, do you move your mouse cursor into the UI(and click on it) so that the ZVM can capture your input from your keyboard and mouse?
Do you use English and do not use any of the non-English input method?
Take a screen record of your operation process so that we can better investigate.
Look forward to your feedback.
I suggest first clicking once inside the VM window before typing, as the keyboard won’t work until the VM captures focus. I believe trying a different browser such as Chrome or Edge is also worthwhile, because Firefox sometimes doesn’t pass keyboard input correctly in noVNC. If you are on a laptop, it can help to quickly test both the built-in keyboard and a USB keyboard, just to rule out a simple device issue.
If your mouse works inside the VM but the keyboard does not, that strongly points to a focus issue. You can also try sending Ctrl+Alt+Del from the VM menu; if the VM reacts, then input is being captured correctly.
I tried it with Chrome, and it works. Thank you for your help, and a great server OS. I enjoy using it very much. Its simplicity encourages me to do more and learn more with it.
