Hi, I’ve set up my zimaboard 2 as a media server on my local LAN with a 3.5" hard drive. I’d like to know if it’s possible to set a power on/off interval since I don’t want the zimaboard to be constantly on.
I think it’s very easy to do with some smart switches.
First, ZimaOS supports automatic daily shutdown. Then, after the shutdown, the smart switch can be set to turn off its power after a few minutes.
Since ZimaBoard is powered on automatically after the power is connected, you only need to set the smart switch to power on at a set time each day to automatically start ZimaBoard 2.
What do you think of this plan?
Hello,
First of all, thank you for your reply. I understand how to turn off the Zimaboard via the settings, but do I really need a smart plug to turn it on? Can’t I set up some kind of start-up routine on the Zimaboard via the software?
To my knowledge, this feature is not yet implemented. I will record this request.
At the same time, can you tell me why you thought of having a timer for power on/off? What are your main concerns and thoughts? Or, what kind of real-world workflow does this feature request correspond to?
Understanding this feedback from the real world can help us prioritize feature definition and implementations.
Looking forward to your reply.
Usually computer devices have a BIOS setting to wake up on some schedule. You need to investigate this.
Normally, this can be done by RTCWAKE on Linux, but you still need to do some research beforehand. ZimaOS already has rtcwake built-in. You can refer to the following tutorials: https://ostechnix.com/automatically-wake-linux-system-sleep-hibernation-mode/
I tried using the Zimaboard’s scheduled shutdown, but after shutdown, it loses the schedule memory. Is this normal?
