Samba: Ability to turn off whole drive sharing

Samba sharing works really neatly in v1.3.2-beta2!

I’ve set up some shares, some special users and the 1st Time Machine backup is running.

I see that Samba does share whole drives from /media by default:

ZimaOS-HD and sda are my physical drives. Or kind of, at least there are mounted under /media.

This might be OK for beginners, but I’d prefer to only share specific folders, also for my main user. So I ask you to let us to stop sharing of whole drives.

You can manage the permissions for the scond, third… user.

Thank you, this sounds good! :+1:

Some further information:

This happens only when turning on turning on Time Machine functionality on a folder.

Set up 1.4.1 from scratch.

ZimaOS-HD does not appear anymore via Samba.

/dev/sda (additional physical drive) is still shared completely though.

May I see this section of your Files app?

Sure thing!

Media and Time Machine shares were created by me on purpose. But /sda was added automatically when reformatting the drive in ZimaOS.

Also I can not stop sharing:

I have PMed you to talk about the post.

Hi Giorgio, do you mind sharing your infos on this? My drives are auto-shared as well with my standard user and there is no button to stop the sharing.
It buggs the hell out of me and I would appreciate any help here!

Are there any plans to add support for Home folders where each user gets there own Home share

According to a recent case, some Windows users stored the primary account user information very early, which allowed direct access to ZimaOS shared content without entering the account password. The solution is to delete such stored authentication information in the control panel. Please see if this applies to your situation.

Not quite what i meant. I have not tried to connect via Windows at all.

After a fresh ZimaOS install and one single samba share, i see this:

These are my drives. Looks like they are shared. Can that be turned off somehow?

It is designed to be this.

By default, you need to enter the correct credentials to access the shares. May I know your concerns?

I think it’s a “visual” aspect of it. Looking quickly at it, having the icons the same, it just LOOKS like they are both shared. Even knowing you have to enter credentials to actually share the drive.

Just my thoughts anyway

This.

It‘s more about cosmetics and I assumed that something is wrong. I would not know if i would not have asked. Would be great to see such notice („its default“) in the documentation.

Like… a red icon for “no shares” and green icon “for shared” or something

If a folder is shared manually, it will have a green icon on it. (ZimaOS 1.5)

Hope it is helpful.

Copy it. It will enter the team’s meeting.
