Hi everyone,
I’m running into a bit of an issue with my setup and was hoping someone here might have a clever solution or work-around!
I recently installed an NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell in my ZimaOS rig. While everything seems to be working, the GPU fan is constantly blasting at 100% maximum speed, even when the system is sitting completely idle. Needless to say, it sounds like a small jet engine taking off in my room! ![]()
Interestingly, when checking via SSH, nvidia-smi shows the GPU in its P8 idle state with an indicated fan speed of 30% at 30°C:
| NVIDIA-SMI 580.105.08 Driver Version: 580.105.08 CUDA Version: 13.0 |
| GPU Name Persistence-M | Bus-Id Disp.A | Volatile Uncorr. ECC |
| Fan Temp Perf Pwr:Usage/Cap | Memory-Usage | GPU-Util Compute M. |
| 0 NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blac… On | 00000000:01:00.0 Off | Off |
| 30% 30C P8 6W / 70W | 2MiB / 16311MiB | 0% Default |
So software-wise the card seems to be initialized fine, but there appears to be a disconnect between the driver signal and the actual physical PWM fan control on ZimaOS.
Has anyone encountered this PWM handshake issue on newer Blackwell / RTX PRO cards under ZimaOS, or knows a way to properly pass through or override the fan target?
Any tips or guidance would be super appreciated!
Best regards
