Raid 5 is missing disk on new setup

I’m new to ZimaOS, and I’m getting a Missed Disk error after setting up my Raid 5 array with 3 16TB drive.

That usually happens when the array didn’t fully initialise with all disks, rather than a real failure straight away.

If this is a fresh setup, it’s likely one of the drives never got properly added during creation or dropped out during the build, so Zima is seeing the RAID as degraded from the start.

First thing to look at is whether all 3 drives are actually visible in ZimaStorage and if the RAID shows as degraded or rebuilding. The UI will usually point out which disk is missing.

I’ve seen this a few times now, most of the time it ends up being a setup glitch (drive not added cleanly, slow spin-up, or similar) rather than a bad disk.

Ok, what’s the fix. I reboot repeatedly and get the same error or all disk is missed.

Yeah that doesn’t look right for a fresh RAID5.

If it’s jumping between “one disk missing” and “all disks missing”, that usually means the system isn’t seeing the drives consistently, not that the RAID has actually failed.

First thing I’d do is check the physical side, reseat all the drives, make sure power and data connections are solid, and nothing is loose. That’s the most common cause for this kind of behaviour.

Once you’re confident all 3 disks show up properly every time in ZimaStorage, then rebuild the RAID clean.
