Quick Access not working on Mac with ZimaOS

Hey everyone,

I’m using a Mac with Apple Silicon to connect to a NAS running ZimaOS.

Everything works fine when I access it via IP in a browser or through the iPhone app, and I can even see the drive and all files from Finder under Network.

The problem only occurs when I use Quick Access in the Zima app on my Mac, and it gives me an error and won’t connect.

Has anyone else run into this or know a fix? Any tips would be super appreciated.

Thanks!

You’re not alone, this is a known macOS-side issue rather than a ZimaOS storage problem.

The key detail is that your NAS is working correctly:

  • Web access via IP works
  • iPhone app works
  • Finder > Network access works

That confirms ZimaOS, SMB, and permissions are all fine.

On Apple Silicon Macs, Quick Access in the Zima macOS app can fail, even though standard SMB access works. Quick Access uses a different connection method than Finder, and it seems to be less reliable on macOS (especially newer versions).

What you can do for now:

  • Keep accessing the NAS via Finder > Network or by mounting smb://<ZimaOS-IP> directly
  • Avoid relying on Quick Access on macOS until it’s improved
  • If you haven’t already, make sure your ZimaOS is fully up to date, but don’t expect that alone to fix this specific behavior

So in short, your setup isn’t broken, Quick Access on macOS is the weak link here. Hopefully this gets smoothed out in a future macOS app update.
