I thought from the features listed there was a way to have onedrive sync to storage, not just have it accessible in files. I can’t find anyway to do that in the documentation anywhere. To be honest, that is one of the reasons I went with ZimaOS. My other option is Truenas Scale. I really like the look and feel of ZimaOS so far, but I really want to have a local share of Onedrive that is fully synced both directions. The reason is on my work system I can have a map to my nas (I work from home) but I can’t have a personal onedrive on my system, where I have business onedrive running already.
Right now, ZimaOS can connect to OneDrive so you can browse and access your files directly through the File app, but a full two-way background sync like on Windows or macOS isn’t available yet. The integration currently works more like a network mount than a live sync. It’s convenient for quick access, but it doesn’t mirror your files locally.
Some users have been experimenting with rclone or onedrive-cmd inside a Docker container to achieve proper bi-directional sync to a folder in /DATA, and that approach works quite well. It’s just not officially documented yet because ZimaOS hasn’t rolled out its own built-in sync service, though the team has hinted that more advanced cloud integration is on the roadmap.
Another good alternative is setting up Nextcloud on ZimaOS. It runs perfectly in Docker and gives you full two-way sync across all your devices, including desktop, mobile, and web. You can also connect your OneDrive account directly from within Nextcloud using the External Storage app. That way, your OneDrive files appear as part of your Nextcloud storage, and you can control how and when they sync to your NAS.
For now, if you want a true local copy that stays in sync, rclone with the OneDrive backend or a Nextcloud setup with OneDrive integration are the best options. You can set either up to run on a schedule or keep them syncing continuously.
A native OneDrive Sync app would definitely be a great addition to ZimaOS.
