Hello fellow ZimaOS users.
I’m having a problem I haven’t been able to solve and have been at it for days and keep going in circles. I will do my best to detail the order of events:
-I have ZimaOS V1.7.1 installed on a HP EliteDesk 800 G5. I have one 2TB HDD connected to one of the SATA ports internally, then I have four 4TB Seagate Exos drives in a four bay enclosure connected via usb. The four HDDs are configured as a RAID5. Additionally, I have everything connected to a UPS and ZimaOS is setup to automatically shut down when it detects it’s running on battery.
-Earlier this week, we had a power outage, and to my knowledge, everything shut down safely and worked as it should. Here’s where it gets tricky though, I literally just got the drives to create a RAID5 a few days prior to this outage, so this was technically the first reboot I’ve had after creating the array. I hadn’t had a chance to test out the behavior upon reboot. so of course one is forced on me before I had the time to go through that process.
-Once I powered back on, RAID5 was showing as inactive and wasn’t mounted. Went in and mounted it manually via the CLI. Had to run lsblk to find that it’s identified as md127, so I mounted /dev/md127 to /media/raid5 (“raid5” is what I named it to keep things simple).
-It mounted and I could access my files, but it was stuck in read-only (had the yellow icon next to it in storage and said “this format Only supports read”).
-Couldn’t get it out of read-only, so I went in and found the UUID and then created the entry in /etc/fstab. Once I rebooted, the system entered emergency mode. I simply continued the boot via ctrl-D and the system booted as it should and my RAID5 mounted and is now acting normally.
Fortunately, everything seems to be functioning, except this one last little bug with having to boot into emergency mode and manually continue the boot process every time I power cycle. I get the feeling something is still not 100% correct here.
Anyone have suggestions for how I can my RAID5 array to mount correctly without the /etc/fstab entry, because that’s what sets off this emergency mode bootup, however, without that entry, I have to manually mount my RAID5 and it only mounts with read-only permissions. Just want to have it where I can power cycle the machine and have it boot and mount everything properly without any intervention.
