Hello. I am planning to buy computer to be my NAS and I am happy about ZimaOS features, so far it is much better than my current synology NAS that I have. For that I am asking if I can run ZimaOS on a mini pc with one nvme storage.
I will be testing it and run Docker containers. And that until I manage to buy a new NAS and install it on.

Yes, I have done the same thing. But I installed Proxmox, over Debian 13 OS. Which just gives you more control over your whole home network basically. But, just installing ZimaOS on a Mini PC works also.
I’m running on a mini PC. But things to keep in mind. You will not be able to setup a RAID on USB attached storage. Only Internal Storage or maybe if you have a SATA port on it with a SATA Enclosure, that I don’t know. Soon I’ll be hooking up an enclosure with 2 big drives that has hardwre RAID 1 setup already. (Hopefully). If your mini PC has 2 NVME slots you might be able to do raid between those 2. If you just want it Running with storage not in a RAID it works great. I’m running on a Minisforum UM690s
Also worth to mention:
The drive on which the operating system is installed cannot then be used for RAID.
Installation on an external drive is possible, but there are still a few bugs. At least, that was the case for me.
It’s worth noting that for USB-connected hard drives, we will provide RAID support in the future, which is already on our roadmap. Hope this is helpful.
I’ll jump in here. I’m a big believer in e waist resiquling. I have a “few” old Asus chomebox’s (cn60’s/cn62’s) with the wifi card removed and a SATA adapter installed in its place. On a chromebox this gives you a m.2 boot drive and SATA ports to raid with and a 1gb rj45 connection. They make a cheap reliable NAS if rolling your own is your thing. I’ll add powering the drive might be a problem but if your doing this then the soldering iron and multi meter are no stranger to you

don’t make the mistake that I made. I was lulled into a cheap GMTek G3 minicomputer that only had one storage facility i.e a 500GB disk. Try to purchase a device that has NVME and a hard drive. Then you can install the OS on the NVME and use the HDD for data in addition to any other storage you plug in via USB.
