Hi there
I currently use True Nas Scale and I am thinking about migrating across to zima os.
However I am undecided.
Can all you lovely users advise on the following
- Sticking with Zfs with zima os but installing new hdds and then important the data from my old.
- Or moving to snap raid or mdma
- Which is the better option.
I believe the safest option is to install new HDDs in ZimaOS, set the storage up fresh, then copy/import the data from the old system. That way your original disks stay untouched until everything is confirmed working.
My suggestion would be:
ZFS if the data is important and you want integrity, snapshots, and scrubs.
mdadm if you want a simpler traditional RAID setup.
SnapRAID if it is mostly media/archive storage that does not change often.
For important data, I’d personally lean toward ZFS, but only if you are comfortable managing it properly on ZimaOS.
