I currently have a system setup as a NAS. 256gb Boot Drive, and a Raid using BTRFS with 2 Seagate 16TB enterprise class drives. It has 32gb of ram and sadly only an Intel® Core™ i5-2310 Processor which has VT-x but not VT-d
Does this mean NO Virtual machines? Or just no virtual machines with access to USB devices attached to the host? What about Apps?
One other question, can the system take over and use my existing mirrored drive array using BTRFS or will I have to blow it away and start over?
With the processor am I unable to run any apps? (Saw the new user post about some requirements)
If I decide instead to set it up on a machine I have that does not have the storage of the mirrored 16tb drives, could it mount that as storage?
I have a box with a AMD Ryzen 9 6900hx 32gb ram A 1TB SSD for boot / whatever and a 2TB SSD for ‘Storage’ If I setup on that box, and use it for all the apps and what not I want, can I have the OMV NAS be storage for it? The OMV box only has a 1gb nic, the AMD box has a 2.5gb nic, I could have both on a 2.5gb switch.
It does have a USB4 port on it I believe, would I be better off getting some kind of USB4 JBOD for those 2 hard drives? Heck a USB 3 JBOD? After all they are spinning disks, not SSD. I could pick up a 2 drive USB 3 enclosure (no raid built in) for cheap.
I’m just not pleased with the OMV as an app server / ease of use / lack of “Plugins” From file share perspective it’s pretty good.
