Hello EveryBody,
I would like to know if it is possible to install HQPLAYER on ZimaOS. First i installed ROON with succes on ZimaOS and I know about ROON that it can use HQPLAYER. So Is there a way to install HQPLAYER ?
I precise that the HQPLAYER Linux version is for :
‣ Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (x64), Linux Mint 22 (x64), Debian 12 / RPi OS (arm64) or Fedora 42 (x64)
Best regards
HQPlayer can’t be installed directly on ZimaOS.
ZimaOS is Buildroot-based, not Debian or Ubuntu, and HQPlayer’s Linux builds are only supported on full distributions like Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12. Because of that, the binaries aren’t compatible and there’s no supported way to install it natively on ZimaOS.
What does work:
- Run HQPlayer in a small VM using Debian 12 or Ubuntu 24.04, then point Roon on ZimaOS to that HQPlayer instance over the network.
- Or run HQPlayer on a separate PC or NUC and keep ZimaOS only as the Roon Core.
Docker isn’t a good option here. There’s no official HQPlayer image, and audio passthrough and licensing make it unreliable.
Bottom line: ZimaOS is fine for Roon, but HQPlayer needs a VM or another machine.
