Some users may do this to save energy and reduce entropy increase.
You can do scheduled shutdown by:
Yes, but how do I turn it on? I want a reboot every night?
You have a number of options, such as physically turning the device on and off remotely by remote switch like this, or using technologies like WOL. Hope this is helpful.
Thanks. But no option from GUI to schedule a reboot? Can I use systemd or similar?
would like to see scheduled reboot option as well!
Scheduled startup requires hardware support before software can support it. In any case, we will log this feature request and discuss it.
Thanks
Is it possible to use systemd or similar for a scheduled reboot?
Any way of creating a scheduled reboot. Ex: Reboot every morning 3.00
A scheduled power-on feature would be appreciated.
This feature is implemented in the open source Open Media Vault software that I’ve installed on my Zimaboard and it works. OMV also has scheduled power off.
The use case is quite simple: some home users doesn’t need a 24/7 turned on system. It shoud be possible to turn off and on the system automatically, depending on a schedule.
Hope to have this feature in the next releases. In the meanwhile, the Bios RTC is the best workaround.
