Hello, I’ve followed all the instructions on installing ZimaOS via balena etcher on my flash drive. Once I enter the boot menu on my computer it tells me “installing ZimaOS” and then I get this following issue where the install just stops:
-I’ve tried using a different usb stick and different usb ports on the nuc.
-I tried using hdmi and usbc output and different monitors
-I originally had secure boot turned on and it wouldn’t even let be start the install. I then turned it off and I was able to at least start the ZimaOS installer.
I’ve used both successfully for installing Zima OS. I have a NUC 8 and had no problems installing Zima OS on that.
I’m sorry I couldn’t have been more helpful, but gelbuilding truly knows this stuff and is usually around here at night in the US, and has already mentioned that he’s seen this issue before. He’s helped me more than once and I appreciate his help here in the community.
I would also recommend installing version 1.5.4 too, as it seems to be the last stable version, IMHO.
Yeah I’d go with what Burndaddy suggested, try ZimaOS 1.5.4.
You’ve already ruled out USB, BIOS, ports, all the usual stuff, so this really points to a compatibility issue with the newer 1.6.x builds on the Intel NUC 10.
If 1.5.4 installs normally, that pretty much confirms it straight away.
it worked! (Sort of) now I have a new issue where it finishes the install and tries to connect to the network to give it an IP address. Install stops there.
It was on WiFi so I’ll grab a long Ethernet cord tomorrow and reinstall it that connected directly to the router. Will update you then.
You lucky son of a gun! Lol I really appreciate you even responding it means a lot. I will definitely try and go with 1.5.4 and see if that will do it. I’ll also try Rufus as well.
where can I find that version btw? Can’t find it anywhere, it’s probably right under my nose
Thank you for your help! It’s alive!!! Set the IP address to static and will let this thing run until I have other issues. Thank you again for your help, it’s very appreciated.
That lines up perfectly with what we suspected. Between using the ISO and getting past that boot hang, it just confirms it was a compatibility quirk on the Intel NUC 10, not anything you were doing wrong.
Setting a static IP is a good move too, makes everything easier going forward.
Let it run and settle in now. If anything pops up later, you’ve at least got a solid base to work from.
Configure your IP address through your router and leave it static so it never changes.
If you have any issues with any software, let us know and we’ll help you.
