HDD keeps waking up

Hello everyone,

I’m new to ZimaOS (total beginner here ), and I’m running into an issue with my hard drives waking up regularly for no apparent reason.

Here is my setup:

Zimaos version 1.54

  • 4 HDDs (used for storage)

  • 1 SSD (used for system and some apps)

  • Docker with Jellyfin and JDownloader

  • I set a sleep every 20 minutes

Problem:
My HDDs spin down correctly, but they wake up every 15–20 minutes without any obvious activity.

What I already tried:

  • Stopped all Docker containers (Jellyfin, JDownloader, etc.)

  • Checked that no downloads or media scans were running

  • Disconnected and reconnected the network to rule out external access

Despite this, the drives still wake up at the same interval.

I’m trying to understand:

  • What process or service could still be accessing the disks

  • How to properly diagnose what is causing these wake-ups on ZimaOS

Any help, tips, or debugging methods would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance :folded_hands:

Hi NaslaMenace, Welcome to the community,

I too am new to ZimaOS and am experiencing the same behavior. My HDDs are setup in RAID1 and I believe it has something to do with RAID. But it is my understanding that this is going to be addressed in the next release, which should be released soon. My original HDDs were just standard desktop drives so I was concerned with all of the spinning up and down. But I recently replaced them with NAS rated drives and now just leave them spinning. I believe that this issue has been seen by many users, but it sounds like they have it sorted out.
