Hello,
I would like to suggest a feature that I believe would be very useful for virtual machines in ZimaOS.
Currently, when configuring a VM, there is no easy way to select which physical hardware devices from the ZimaOS host should be directly assigned to the virtual machine.
It would be very useful to have a section in the VM configuration, for example “Hardware / Passthrough”, that allows users to view the available physical devices and assign them directly to a VM.
For example:
-
USB devices
-
USB dongles
-
Zigbee adapters
-
USB printers
-
Serial devices
-
Specific disks or controllers
-
PCI/PCIe devices
Ideally, users should be able to see a list of available devices, select the desired device, and assign it to the VM with a simple click, without having to use virsh manually or modify configuration files from the terminal.
This feature would make ZimaOS much more powerful and flexible for virtualization and would make it much easier to connect physical hardware to operating systems such as Windows, Home Assistant, or Linux distributions.
For example, in my case I would like to create a Windows VM to manage a printer and be able to assign the corresponding USB device directly to the VM through the ZimaOS graphical interface.
I understand that hardware passthrough may have some technical limitations, but even an initial implementation focused on USB devices would already be extremely useful.
Thank you for all the work you are doing on ZimaOS. I hope you will consider adding this feature in a future release.
