If you recently found a new app to run, be it docker, or VM on your ZimaOS host share with the community what you found, and how it helped you out and may have solved a problem, solved an annoyance, saved you $$$, or just put a smile on your face that you could self-host that.
For me, I switched from Grammarly to an extension called “LanguageTool”. I switched because I was annoyed by Grammarly pestering to pay $ to use it, with a limit on how much you could use it in a day. Had a few other things I didn’t care about it. I found LanguageTool and switched to it. Then just 1–2 weeks ago, they announced they were ending free use of their extension, and that you had to upgrade to the “Pro” version with more AI features. I was dreading. I was doing some researching and discovered that their extension supports running your own backend server, and that you can host your own backend server just like Vaultwarden can self-host Bitwarden (Which I implemented last month) So I set it up, I don’t have advanced AI stuff, but it is a great FREE pretty darn good spellcheck / grammar checker
I do use Cloudflare to connect to my services locally and securely. You go to extension settings/advanced settings and put your server in. You can use your local server without something like Cloudflare, I use other server, and used my Cloudflare URL in the server name so I could use it from my work workstation too which can’t access my local network at home.
The Docker image I used is this one
It took a little bit of tweaking, but it works, and it is working great. It doesn’t use too many resources in my case.
So if you have found something cool recently post and share about it here!
P.S. We should have an optional tag for SHOWOFF or SHARE
