Disk is read only

All of a sudden my main storage is read only. I updated to 1.5.3 a couple days ago, other than that there hasd been no change.

What can cause this and what can I do to fiix it.

If your storage is in a raid configuration, check the drive health. If one of the drives is not functioning the storage will go into read only mode. I had a problem with this and fixed in by formatting the drives and setting up a new system with a new raid setup. The second drive was not actually damaged.

I pulled all the nvme’s, re-seated them, rebooted, and it re-appeared. I will keep an eye on it.

This usually isn’t caused by the update itself. When ZimaOS detects filesystem errors, I/O errors, or a degraded RAID / flaky NVMe connection, Linux will remount the disk read-only to protect data.

Common causes are NVMe hiccups, cable/backplane issues, power blips, or a transient filesystem error. Re-seating the drives and rebooting often clears it temporarily, but it’s worth checking SMART health and system logs if it happens again.

If it keeps returning, that usually points to an underlying disk, RAID, or hardware stability issue rather than ZimaOS 1.5.3 itself.
