Can't add/format new (unsupported) hard drives

Hi everyone,

It looks like I’m unable to add a new drive (via the UI) if the drive is currently in an unsupported format and I’m looking to format it.

I’ve connected the drives (SATA), and they’ve been detected, are listed under “Found a new device”. I’m given the option to Manage them and “Set up your new disks.” When I choose this, I have the option to Combine or Enable.

Enable shows “No available disks, please check the disk status”.

Combine gives me the option to create an array from the new drives, but I’m looking to add these as standalone disks.

The disks are shown as having a Healthy state, and in an unsupported format.

Without resorting to SSH, is there no way to format and “adopt” these drives?

With thanks,
Jake.

Running on:
ZimaOS v1.6.1
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H with Radeon 680M
6 Cores, 3.30 GHz, 12 Threads
4 RAM 16 GB total 6400 MHz LPDDR5

Yeah this is a 1.6.x quirk, you’re not doing anything wrong.

Basically if the drive already has a filesystem Zima doesn’t like, it won’t show up under Enable, even though it says “Healthy”.

So the UI gets stuck:

  • sees the disk
  • but won’t let you adopt it as standalone

Quick check just to confirm:

lsblk -f

If you see NTFS/exFAT/old data on it, that’s why.

Right now there’s no proper “wipe + adopt” button in the UI, so most people hit this. Once the disk is clean, it shows up normally,
