Blank/black screen when connected to server directly (CLI)

I wanted to set my root password as suggested, but when i wanted to do so my monitor just gives me an black screen. it does give signal but no login screen.

what is tried so far.

  • resetted the BIOS (cmos removal)
  • removed the GPU, hoping the onboard graphics would kick in
  • tryed to do a complete reinstall but i don’t see if i’m in the bios or not, so not an option so far.

plugged the server in to a TV, magic it worked and i could set my root password
