Add multiple networks to ZVM

running 1.4.1
have a linux vm in ZVM and wanted to know how to add a second network is that possible? I don’t see the option to add a secondary network interface is the setting of the ZVM vm.

Hi, I am Giorgio from IW. We’ve heard your requests for adding multiple virtual network cards (NICs) to ZVM. To help us build this feature correctly, please take a moment to answer the few questions below.

Your direct feedback is essential for our development.

【ZVM Multi-NIC Feedback】

1. My Use Case & Goal:

(What are you trying to build? Why does it need more than one NIC? For example, running a virtual router like OpenWrt, creating an isolated network, etc.)

2. The Problem & Value:

(Problem: What’s your current workaround and why is it inconvenient? Value: How would this feature make your setup better, simpler, or cheaper?)

3. Key Technical Requirements (Optional):

(Anything specific you need? E.g., PCIe Passthrough, VLAN support, easy bridging in the UI.)

Thanks for your input! Just copy, paste, and fill out the template in your reply. Every response helps.

Best,

Giorgio

I second this feature.
I have multiple networks at home where I use a small cluster behind a master node. The master node needs to be accessed via 2 different interfaces (2 different NICs). One interface is from the user network where you log in to the master node and the 2nd interface is a private network that connects to the cluster nodes.

In any case, it is very normal for a virtualization layer to enable multiple network interfaces.
Why wouldn’t you want to provide this?

Thanks for the feedback. We have recorded this feature request. We may implement it in the future. For now, an option is to use the virsh tool to achieve it manually. Hope this is helpful.
