ZimaOS 1.7.0 on ZimaBoard2: Nightly CPU Temperature Spikes (103°C) - (26% CPU Usage)

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a very strange issue with ZimaOS 1.7.0 on my ZimaBoard 2, and I’m wondering if anyone else has seen something similar.

My setup

  • ZimaBoard 2

  • Fresh installation of ZimaOS 1.7.0

  • Original official CPU cooler

  • 2× SSDs

  • 1× 10 TB HDD

  • 3 Docker containers (currently all paused for testing)

During the day, everything works perfectly:

  • Average CPU temperature is around 44°C

  • CPU fan is quiet

  • CPU usage stays around 3–5%

  • Power consumption is about 2.5 W

  • The HDD spins down correctly after about 30 minutes

However, every morning when I enter my office, the CPU fan is running at full speed.

When I check the dashboard, the CPU temperature is jumping every few seconds between 75°C and up to 103°C. At the same time, the CPU usage stays constantly at exactly 26%, and power consumption is around 10 W.

What makes this even stranger is that all Docker containers are paused, yet the problem still occurs. It only seems to happen overnight.

If I simply restart ZimaOS, everything immediately returns to normal. The CPU temperature goes back to around 44°C, the fan becomes quiet again, and CPU usage returns to normal. Everything works perfectly until the next night, when the exact same issue happens again.

The hardware itself is fine, so I’m starting to suspect that this may be a ZimaOS issue or that some background task is running during the night.

Has anyone experienced something similar with ZimaOS 1.7.0?

Are there any scheduled background tasks, indexing jobs, or known bugs that could cause this behavior?

I’m also concerned because repeated temperature spikes above 100°C don’t seem healthy for the CPU.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
