Hi,
I was really hoping for this one, still none of my disks inside a Terramaster D4 320 spins down.
They perfectly do under Mac OS or Windows, can this be done in Zima OS too?
Mi disks are getting older by the day as they are ALWAYS spinning…
Thanx for your efforts and time.
Yeah unfortunately USB enclosure spindown on Linux/ZimaOS is still pretty inconsistent, especially with multi-bay DAS units like the TerraMaster D4-320.
A lot of these enclosures rely on their own firmware or Windows/macOS utilities for power management, so Linux standby commands often get ignored or the drives get woken constantly by background activity.
Would definitely be good to see IceWhale improve disk standby handling in ZimaOS, but part of this may also come down to the USB bridge chipset inside the enclosure itself.

Another user, nearly with the same enclosure, told me he could "solve” the issue by installing a docker ready version of HD-IDLE UTILITY, I just could not find the source nor a package that could work dockerized within Zima.
Is there a possibility that hd-idle utility could be integrated in Zima (even if I am quite sure I am just stating the obvious here, but you never know)?
Yeah hd-idle can help, but on ZimaOS it’s not straightforward to run in Docker since it needs direct disk access.
Even then, with enclosures like the TerraMaster D4-320, it may still not work properly depending on the USB chipset.
Best solution would really be native support in ZimaOS rather than a Docker workaround.
