VMWare installation procedure doesn't seem to work

Looks like VMWare Pro can only open VMX, VMTM, OVF and OVA files. None of these are supported in StarWind V2V converter, so I cannot follow the procedure in the post you uploaded.

Hey pal. I have made a video tutorial for you.

Look forward to your success.

Thanks Giorgio. I did exactly the same steps, except I noticed you were using an older version of VMWare, Version 17. I was using the newest version, which doesn’t seem to work with this iso. Is there any chance you could try it using the new version of VMWare Pro (25H2) and let me know if you can get it to work?

Interestingly, I also tried it using the newest Virtual Box and could not get it to work on that either. I really don’t know what is wrong.

I just tried it again, but this time I used the “Custom (advanced)” option and changed the VM hardware compatibility from “Workstation 25H2” to “Workstation 17.5 or later”. This made all the difference!

It is now working!. Looks like the new ZimaOS iso for 1.5.1 doesn’t work on the newest release of VMWare Pro (25H2).

Thanks for your help with this. Glad we finally found the solution.

It might be a good idea to update the original install docs so that others won’t run into this issue.

I am glad you got everything worked out and your ZimaOS is working!

A little journey to get there, but, mission accomplished. That’s awesome.

Thanks @gelbuilding and @Zima-Giorgio, and @Lorenzo for helping as well.

Take care
