Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka” VM – flawless install! + Audio passthrough query!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give a big shoutout to the ZimaOS ZVM team — I just installed Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka) as a VM, and it went smooth as butter!
Everything worked out of the box — display, networking, and performance are rock solid.
Amazing work on making virtualization feel so effortless on ZimaOS.

That said, I’m curious about audio support for QEMU-based VMs.
Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to route audio output from a Linux VM (Ubuntu 25.10) to the machine accessing ZimaOS — or at least make it available via the web console or SPICE/VNC.

Would love to know if there’s a recommended or planned way to implement:

  • Audio passthrough or streaming from VM to host
  • SPICE display with audio redirection
  • Or a lightweight audio backend option (PulseAudio/ALSA) in future releases

Would be great if ZVM could make this easier to toggle in future builds!

Thanks again for all the work — ZimaOS is shaping up beautifully.

Thanks for the feedback. However, we are a small team and currently need to balance product implementation priorities. And until we find the right engineering resources, we won’t be dedicating too much effort to ZVM. We may prioritize ZVM more fully in a future release, perhaps around 2.0. Thanks for the feedback.

Until then, you can also use virsh to do more! (CLI is always more versatile, but you need to be careful and have sufficient computer knowledge.)

Thanks.
