Hello i have don a check with zima base with 4 wd nas drives and is ´looks fine.
So i decided to swap my 4 TB WD Red to my HP Microgen8 and swaped the 8TB SEagate into my DIY NAS. Currently there are 5 - 8 TB Hdds ans two 256 GB SSDs (for cache) in the System.
The 5 HDDs are on the Motherboard SATA Ports and the SSDs are on a external PCI Controller.
All is visible in Zima.
Tried to build da POC with 4 of the 8 TB HDDs but i can select them in Raid 5 but not complete ?
Do i have to buld the plus Version for Test ? that i can buld the RAID 5 with 4 Drives?
I would not assume this is a Plus-version issue straight away.
RAID 5 should normally require at least 3 disks, and ZimaOS documentation shows RAID 5 creation through the Storage UI using the Combine/Create flow. The important part is that the disks must be seen by ZimaOS as unused/available, not already formatted, mounted, cached, or holding old RAID metadata.
Before rebuilding anything, can you please share:
- Your ZimaOS version
- A screenshot of the Storage page where the RAID 5 creation cannot be completed
- Whether those 8 TB drives were previously used in another NAS/RAID system
If the drives came from another NAS, they may still have old partition/RAID metadata on them. ZimaOS may show the disks as visible, but still not allow completing the RAID build until they are clean/unused.
Also, I would keep the two SSD cache drives out of the RAID test for now and only test with the 4 HDDs first. Once the RAID is created and healthy, then look at cache separately.
its solved. tricky but now its running
