qBittorrent “Permission Denied” Error on External SSD (Btrfs Drive in ZimaOS)

Hi everyone :waving_hand:,

I’m running qBittorrent (via App Store) on ZimaOS and getting a consistent
“Permission Denied” error in the logs whenever I try to download to my external SSD.

Here’s my setup:

  • System: ZimaOS (latest build)
  • Drive: 1TB SSD mounted at /media/SSD-1TBStorage
  • Filesystem: btrfs
  • qBittorrent container volume mapping:
    • /media/SSD-1TBStorage/Downloads → /downloads
  • Permissions:
drwxrwxr-x 1 1000 samba /media/SSD-1TBStorage/Downloads
  • Inside container, error message:
mkdir (/downloads/incomplete/...) error: Permission denied

I’ve tried:

  • Running chown -R 1000:1000 /media/SSD-1TBStorage/Downloads
  • Running chmod -R 775 /media/SSD-1TBStorage/Downloads
  • Restarting the container and the system
  • Verifying container runs as UID/GID 1000

But the issue keeps coming back — downloads never start.

Is this related to how ZimaOS mounts external drives (e.g. samba group ownership)?
If so, how can I permanently fix permissions for Docker apps like qBittorrent, Radarr, and Sonarr?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated :folded_hands:

Seems to be a permission error.

UID 1000 does not exist. You, as the first user (admin), has the UID 999. A second user will have 998, and so on…

Try with „0“, which is root. If that works, then it is a permission error.
