Hello to everyone. Nice job on zima os. I am very thrilled that i am building my new nas and get away from synology.
I have a crucial question. I tried to install vpn so the whole nas can use that vpn to access the internet. but i am very confused about many things. I already have a nord vpn account. can someone please provide a simple guide how to do that? Wireguard is for create a vpn server correct? Does that mean that the whole nas use that vpn for its own traffic.??? Sorry if it sound like a silly question but i need to fix this to make sure everything work perfect.
Hi, thank you for using ZimaOS!
We are very interested in what made you switch from Synology to ZimaOS, or rather, what are the three things that most appeal to you about ZimaOS?
Regarding the VPN you mentioned, could you tell me your primary reason for using it? If it’s for remote connectivity, then ZimaOS’s built-in Remote function can help you access ZimaOS remotely. Whether on a mobile phone or a computer, the Zima Client can establish a VPN through the Remote function, allowing you to easily access ZimaOS remotely. Or do you have other reasons for using a VPN?
Regarding NordVPN, I found a Docker image page; see if it helps.

Looking forward to your reply.
I had this problem with NordVPN and did exactly what it was mentioned here: VPN client for Zima OS? - #6 by wiliamvj
First reason is the interface. So simple and easy to use. Second reason is that simplicity of setup and third reason because it much cheaper to resurect and old pc with zero cost than buy a device with 500euros + the HDD’s another 500 euros. I respect synology for what they have done but with almost zero cost i manage to create a nas much more powerfull in 2025.
Some things need to get fixed yet but i am confident that zima os will be brilliant in the future.
As for the vpn use i want it mostrly for torrents. so in order to avoid buy a new router with vpn ability i prefer to setup the zima os to use vpn.
A good idea would be a guide and an automatic app with minimum configuration that would do the job because i see that many people are looking for this. I will check the answers you provide me guys and when i set this up i will provide feedback.
Thanks a lot for the support and the fast response.
