I upgraded my home server from a Pi4 to a Dell Optiplex 7060 micro running ZimaOS.
Recently, there was an internet outage and I noticed that i could not access ZimaOS on Lan without internet active. I used to be able to do this when using the pi4 with Openmediavault. I have tried multiple settings and bios changes without success. While this is a simple inconvenience, it means that I am completely dependent on an internet connection to use my server. Might as well be using a cloud service then.
It turns out that the device causing the issue was the router, a Tp-link mesh system. Apparently it’s very common for this brand of mesh routers to go crazy when losing internet connection. They don’t know which ethernet port is wan so they start trying to receive from all them hoping to get an internet connection. I used an old router and setup the mesh in ap mode. that fixed the issue.
I know I said i was able to use my pi offline, but maybe I never had to after upgrading to the mesh. I know i did with the other router. Of course WiFi was working fine offline with the mesh which is why I was almost certain it was the computer.
