Is it possible to add LDAP authentication to ZimaOS so that Samba file sharing can be asigned against a domain users account.
This option was avalible on my 15 year old Buffalo NAS.
Thanks.

I’ll go ahead and chime in here, that might be nice. But how many actually have a ldap service they can tie it into?
There are plenty of LDAP services that could be run inside a docker/app.
More advanced home-labbers or small companies might wish to use ZimaOS as a better value option than Windows servers.
You are absolutely right about that. I have to admit, if I could have all the apps as well as ZimaOS, I’m talking Immich, nextcloud, so forth, use a common login system, be it AD, Google, FB, It would be much easier selling my wife on using the services I am getting setup. ![]()
But Seriously, that is a very good point, and I’m really wondering now if it might be worth my time to research LDAP services and if I could benefit in any way to them.
+1
In my opinion, such features better fit into a „enterprise“-OS. I found the „easy and simple approach“ of ZimaOS very refreshing in comparison to all other NAS OS and I rather miss features than having a bloated OS.
I am new here and am just taking a look to see what options look like after my Synology died after about 10 solid years. I have more storage in available now on my VM Host and went looking for NAS options that could run in a VM. I found this and in my very early assessments it is very nicely polished look and feel.
I strongly agree with @ASRTichy that any modern NAS solution ought to be able to be part of a domain as many home lab users maintain domains as practice or learning environments. not integrating into that adds complications when setting up the environment.
Also, would provide more paying users as those environments would tend to have more than 3 people.
