Installing on an Optiplex 7040

Afternoon all,

I’ve been attempting to install ZimaOS on a Dell Optiplex 7040 for a couple of days now, and i’m running out of things to try.

I built my boot usb using Balena Etcher, using the 1.6.2 img. I can boot into the memory stick and run through the install, it see the hard drive and finishes happily. Then once the install is complete, i can reboot and remove the memory stick however i then get stuck in a gnu grub screen where it cannot see the hard drive.

In the Dell bios, i have ensured that ACHI is set, secure boot is disabled and the hard drive (m.2) shows in the boot menu.

I’ve rebuilt the stick a few times, using Balena and an attempt with Rufus. I’ve ran through the install multiple times too. I’m just downloading the latest zimaOS beta release to attempt, in case something is different but i’m running out of things to check/try..

Any help would be super appreciated, thank you all

Hello,

Have you tried reformatting your hard drive (m2)? Not long ago, I had to reformat the system hard drive for a new installation of ZimaOS, for it to work.

Hi!

I created a linux Mint bootable to use to format the drive completely, in case that was causing issues.

Same thing after an attempted reinstall..

Update on the install of the latest beta ZimaOS, its still going and hanging at 95% at the moment, will leave it but its been running for at least an hour at this point

Thanks for the reply!
